Symmetry, SAPPHIRE partner for digital signage, kiosk embedded computing

Symmetry Electronics today announced a distribution partnership with SAPPHIRE Technology, a global supplier of graphics products, mainboards and embedded solutions. SAPPHIRE's newly announced Embedded Systems Business Unit is designing and delivering systems for intensive graphics and small format computing in numerous applications.

SAPPHIRE's new 4x4 platform, powered by the AMD G-Series eKabini SOC, is ready to enter the embedded PC market with a cost effective, high performance x86 embedded computing platform, the company said. The board utilizes all the advantages of AMD's G series SoC family to deliver a complete computing solution with dual HDMI display outputs, HD audio and extensive I/O capability on a printed circuit board measuring only 4 inches by 4 inches. The system is available as board only, or housed in an extruded metal casing ideal for wall mounting. The cased model is available in bare-bone and full-system configurations, and the family also includes a fanless low-power model.

"SAPPHIRE's AMD-focused strategy is synergistic with Symmetry's exclusive AMD Embedded approach," David Beck, Symmetry Electronics Technical Marketing Director, said in the announcement. "The partnership of AMD, SAPPHIRE and Symmetry provides a technology powerhouse to address evolving embedded markets such as electronic gaming, embedded digital signage, video surveillance and retail POS and kiosks."
