Delta Elementary School in Delta Junction, Alaska, is using in-school digital signage from Signera as a means of staying connected, according to an announcement from Signera. Delta Elementary is the first school in outside the contiguous United States to deploy Signera Digital Signage, the company said.
Delta Elementary School began using digital signage because "we wanted a way that we could connect with students and parents in our main lobby," school principal Rick Vandenboom said in the announcement. "Before school, during lunch, and after school our lobby is filled with students, staff and parents. We have some bulletin boards, but most of those get the 'once over' and are not looked at again. With digital signage we are able to have calendar events, pictures/movies of students, relevant Twitter/RSS feeds, with current weather conditions."
Delta Elementary is a public school serving 260 students from Pre-K through third grade. Located 100 miles southeast of Fairbanks, Delta Junction sits on the Delta and Tanana Rivers at the junction of Richardson Highway and the end of the Alaskan Highway.
Delta Elementary has been selected by the U.S. Dept. of Education as a Blue Ribbon School, one of three schools nominated from Alaska.
"Communication is a big focus in education," Vendenboom said. "We are constantly trying to find ways to communicate with our students and with parents. We also wanted a system where teachers could upload pictures or messages from the convenience of their classroom or home computer. The information displayed is almost self-sufficient and hands-off for front office staff. Having digital signage in the main lobby helps us to communicate with a large amount of people in an entertaining way."
Signera said it offers solutions for single signs and massive network deployments by integrating a flexible Web-based system with customizable content modules. It specializes in digital signage, electronic message boards, information boards, digital bulletin boards, reader boards and menu boards for educational institutions and government, hospitality and health care deployments.
