Digital Signage specialist AOPEN Inc. has partnered with Axis Communications, a provider of network video surveillance, to release the hybrid signage and surveillance solution DS2. This product, designed for retailers and other commercial applications, combines signage and surveillance in a way that allows security to enhance customer engagement and satisfaction, according to an announcement from the companies.
In addition to the security benefits of connecting surveillance hardware to digital signage displays, end-users will be able to leverage the Axis cameras with AOPEN's signage technology to deliver more powerful marketing material to customers, the companies said. With the DS2, retailers can use the video feed to deliver targeted messages to audiences via digital signage panels. The feed from the cameras can be easily integrated into the signage, as well, allowing retailers to advertise directly to consumers on the monitors facing the audience.
"We see surveillance as an important challenge for retailers who own a store," AOPEN Europe Marketing Manager Gabriëlle Offringa said in the announcement. "Shoplifting has always been a touchy subject for store owners as it accounts for unnecessary losses. With the combination of signage and surveillance, we try to give the retailer a solution that has a twofold benefit: using marketing communications such as promotions and advertisements to increase sales, and running security feeds at the back end of the store, thus improving security measures and theft prevention."
DS2 allows a single player to connect up to six cameras to cover a premises, with a single device powering both the local signage network and the camera security feeds to lower total cost of ownership, according to the announcement.
