Digital signage media appliances provider IAdea has made available seven new "feature-packed" devices designed for digital signage, the company said.

Three new 10-inch digital signboards incorporate advanced functions for digital signage projects, especially targeting the retail and corporate vertical markets. Three new media players and what the company says is "the world's first" Open Pluggable Specification-compliant player supporting the Android API are available for use with larger screens.

According to IAdea, the new devices are supported by leading digital signage software options via SMIL, HTML5, and the Google Android API, meeting the needs of professional integrators. The devices will be shown by select IAdea partners at the upcoming Integrated Systems Europe and Digital Signage Expo shows in Amsterdam and Las Vegas, respectively.

"These new devices incorporate our years of experience in the digital signage market. Our goal is to provide a wide range of hardware options to meet real project requirements, while maintaining the best interoperability with content management solutions," IAdea EVP Rex Chen said in the announcement. "We are excited that we are joined by industry leaders like Scala who share our vision and work with us to form a strong ecosystem to address market needs."

The new models are optimized for displaying up-to-date information at the point-of-wait and point-of-decision and for delivering dynamic content at the shelf-edge and counter-top, the company said. They can be as easily mounted behind screens to display up-to-date and viewer-targeted information. Typical applications include shelf-edge product promotion, electronic menu boards, conference room door signs, reception area hospitality signage, and the display of real-time business analytics on executive desks.

The new 10-inch digital signboards incorporate advanced functions for digital signage projects, especially targeting the retail and corporate vertical markets. The XDS-1060 and XDS-1062 are designed to be easily mounted on the retail shelf or simply sit on the table-top using the included multipurpose stand. A replaceable front bezel allows the device to be customized to fit the design theme of the deployment environment. A motion sensor and a set of six touch-sensitive buttons enable engagement with the viewer. The XDS-1062 further incorporates Power-over-Ethernet technology to receive power over the network cable, greatly simplifying installation and maintenance work at locations where power outlets are expensive to set up. The XDS-1068 features a 10-point multitouch panel and embedded video camera, as well as enhanced display resolution and view angle, providing a tool for delivering targeted and personalized content.

The new media players — the XMP-2200, XMP-2300 and XMP-2400 — offer a network managed media player platform, differentiated by their support for wireless connectivity options, A/V-in video overlay and RS-232 control. The XOP-2300 is a fanless module for displays with the OPS player slot, offering a low-power alternative platform for the form factor defined by Intel.

Harry Horn, VP of  marketing for Scala, called IAdea "a leader in developing digital signage media appliances featuring a rich set of functionality" in the announcement.

"Their media appliances and signboards are perfectly designed to target retail and corporate communication audiences effectively. By combining IAdea products with the Scala software, that now also supports HTML5 and Android, retail and corporate marketers have a flexible tool set in hand to connect with their target groups and reach their communication targets through eye-catching dynamic digital communication," Horn said. "On the Scala stand at ISE 2013 ... we will showcase a sales-driving retail communication concept and a corporate com concept that can be used in many environments. For both concepts we will use the new Power-over-Ethernet IAdea signboards. This makes installation even more effective, as no separate power cable is necessary anymore."

The new devices are scheduled for release starting in February.
