RevelDigital today announced the release of its full-featured Android player for digital signage
In conjunction with the release of the company's digital signage player software for the Android, RevelDigital also announced an Android mini PC designed for optimum performance and reliability.
According to the company, recent advances in system-on-a-chip technology combined with the Android 
operating system provides all the performance and functionality necessary to take full advantage of the RevelDigital signage management platform.
Revel's new Android player offers a number of advantages over traditional hardware, including physical size, energy efficiency and simplified deployment, the company said. At only 3 inches long and weighing only 7 ounces the device is easily hidden from view, and with no moving parts or cooling fans it is able to maintain an average power consumption of only 5 watts, the company said. The device is also capable of utilizing any USB port for power which, combined with its integrated Wi-Fi, means no hard wiring for network or power cables.
The player supports multiple zones of content, transparency, HD video, Adobe Flash, HTML, Google Gadgets, slideshows, marquees and more, the company said. RevelDigital says the Android player makes for zero hassle deployment, since the player can just be plugged into the HDMI and USB to the back of any modern digital signage display and it's ready to use.
RevelDigital's Android player software provides full integration with the RevelDigital Web-based management platform including tools for designing content, scheduling playback, monitoring and reporting. RevelDigital's template designer allows for pixel-precise layouts. Player health is monitored continuously with screen shots of active content, and proof-of-play reporting gives millisecond precision of when content is played.
