Cologne, Germany-based software firm dimedis will showcase several new digital signage solutions — including what it bills as "the first digital signage solution based on HTML5 — to the visitors of the Integrated Systems Europe show in Amsterdam in early 2013.

From January 29-31, 2013, presentations at the dimedis booth will showcase the new version 6.0 of the company's kompas digital signage solution, as well as a new wayfinding digital signage system, according to a company announcement.

Dimedis said kompas is the first digital ignage software to make extensive use of the HTML5 standard and to interface with Adobe EDGE. Interactive elements will be another strong point of the new kompas release: Users are encouraged to use their smartphones as remote controls to influence the content shown on the screen and to manage the digital signage system.

According to dimedis, HTML5 represents a big change that could lead to more standardization and allow more compatibility between different solutions, thus promoting the platform-independent use of content. This would facilitate the integration of digital signage as one part of bigger advertising campaigns without the need for elaborate adjustments to the content depending on each platform, the company said. With kompas 6.0, thanks to the use of HTML5, users can deliver the same content to a diverse set of different devices and screen sizes, the company said
