Helsinki, Finland-based interactive display systems developer MultiTouch Ltd. recently announced the debut of what it says are "the world's first" fully integrated interactive digital signage displays with Windows 8 — the 42- and 55-inch MultiTaction cells.
The new MultiTaction Cell 42 inch (MT420W8) and 55 inch (MT550W8) with embedded Windows 8 on Intel Core i7 are the first large-format displays with a built-in touch user interface, the company said. The interactive displays support simultaneous use of unlimited touch, Windows 8 native pen tracking and real-life object interaction.
With the Windows 8 compatibility, MultiTaction displays are positioned for clients seeking large, integrated Windows 8 devices, particularly for public spaces. Both displays allow clients to run applications from the Windows 8 store, the same applications that run on smartphones, tablets, laptops and desktop PCs. In addition, developers can also use their preferred development platforms using industry standard interfaces such as TUIO and XML streams. MultiTouch's proprietary Cornerstone SDK is also fully supported.
"We have long said that touch interface is the way of the future for consumers and businesses. With Windows 8 running across multiple devices, we will see the number of interactive applications grow exponentially," said Petri Martikainen, CEO of MultiTouch, in the announcement.
MultiTouch's MultiTaction displays will be showcased at the 2013 International CES event in Las Vegas Jan. 8-11.
