Photo booths continue to morph into social media centers with today's introduction of TapSnap to the market. Dubbed a "phototainment" system, the TapSnap seeks to capitalize on the age of social media and the popularity of photo sharing.

The TapSnap features a 42-inch multitouch screen overlay on a commercial monitor, resembling a large tablet tapsnap photo booth screencomputer, the announcement said. It uses a 12-megapixel DSLR Camera, the EOS Rebel T3, and enables event guests to modify pictures with finger swipes. Users can also take high-definition video using TapSnap's 4G/LTE connectivity that allows instant uploading of large video files.

Traditional photo booths maintain a bit of presence on the machines, as TapSnap produces photostrips using a dye-sublimation HiTi 510s printer, the announcement said.

"This is a special event photo system so highly connected that the integration between it and social media networks is virtually seamless," said Scott McInnes, CEO and founder of TapSnap. "Imagine playing with a giant tablet computer that takes exceptionally high-quality pictures and then lets you share on social networks with a simple tap of your fingertip. The multitouch screen is incredibly responsive, almost like it knows what you want before you do."
