The NHL's New York Rangers have run a digital signage power play in New York City's Madison Square Garden and beyond.
MSG, home to the Rangers and the NBA's New York Knicks, deployed a fan-facing digital signage network last year; Meyers Park, the "official parking of the NY Knicks & NY Rangers" has deployed digital signage screens in its parking facilities; and more recently the Rangers deployed a team and staff-facing network in its practice facility in Tarrytown, N.Y., according to a recent paper from Savant Systems LLC.

According to the white paper/case study, "The New York Rangers professional hockey team approached Savant Systems seeking a simple, dynamic and user-generated means to alert players and staff of key messages and statistical information related to the team's daily schedule and activities. These alerts were to be displayed on the 12 HDTVs located throughout the team's primary practice facility in Tarrytown N.Y. All messaging was to be created and managed by staff members from their personal computers, iPhones and iPads."
Using Savant's latest automation App, TrueControl, the Rangers can now control and manage the team's switching, messaging and media system from iPads, iPod touches and iPhones, including some key highlights:
- Scrolling text on 12 HD digital signage displays with the ability to update the text via email messaging;
- Custom messaging box on the side of the screen to allow for Web-based content to be displayed, e.g., standings, schedules, stats;
- RSS Feed area below dynamic messaging box;
- Distribution of seven cable TV boxes, two DVD players, and 10 PC inputs to any of the 12 displays with content managed via Savant's iPad app.
Digital out-of-home firm Park Cast Network runs the digital signage in the MSG parking areas for Meyers Park, and about this time last year, MSG finished off the first phase of a facilities renovation that included the installation of a digital signage network powered by Harris Broadcast Communications. The digital signage displays are strung throughout main concourse, and the final two renovation phases were expected to expand the digital signage network inside the arena's bowl, upper concourses and two sky bridges.
