This year's Digital Signage Expo trade show will feature a Near Field Communication "bootcamp," a half-day seminar focused on the increasingly popular smartphone technology.
The pre-conference educational session, "Near Field Communication: Changing the Digital Signage Value Proposition," will take a look at the technology that allows smartphone users to share files, communicate socially, and make use of contactless payment systems or access multiplayer games.
In combination with digital signage, NFC can become a powerful tool to extend and enhance customer, visitor or stakeholder engagement, allowing NFC-enabled users to communicate with a digital signage screen with a touch or a wave of their phone.
The NFC Bootcamp, which will run from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., is one of 10 pre-conference educational programs to be presented on Tuesday, March 6. (Digital Signage Expo 2012, co-located with the Interactive Technology Expo and Digital Content Show, is scheduled for March 6-9 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas.) Presented by OTA Training, the NFC Bootcamp is a special half-day edition of the nationally-standardized Near Field Communication educational series. As the NFC ecosystem begins to mature and moves from payments to more marketing-based applications, DSE organizers said, there is an increasing desire for business leaders to understand just how they can harness the power of NFC to drive brand awareness and increase revenue.
Robert Sabella, president and CEO of NFC Bootcamp producers OTA Training, said in the announcement that NFC "will change forever how consumers engage with digital media."
Richard Lebovitz, educational director for DSE producers Exponation LLC, said the trade show is happy to have the opportunity to include the educational program on the technology that "has become a 'hot button' topic" that "complements the half-day 'Mobile Models You Can Believe In' workshop, providing attendees valuable insight into the social-local-mobile landscape and its convergence with digital signage."
Registration for NFC Bootcamp; all of DSE's Tuesday, March 6 pre-conference seminars; or any of the DSE 2012 educational conference seminars on Wednesday and Thursday, March 7 and 8, is now available online at www.digitalsignageexpo.net.
