The Mohawk College Student Center in Hamilton, Ontario recently underwent a multi-million dollar renewal. As a part of the project, the Mohawk Student Association deployed a student center-wide digital signage network using Scala software. According to an announcement of the project, the new network will be used to update student and provide emergency alerts.
The solution for the Mohawk College Student Center was delivered by Gorrie Marketing Services (GMS), a Scala Certified Partner. The solution included Scala 5 and Designer software, Samsung LCD displays, network installation, content design consultation and operational training on Scala for managing the network and its content.
"The combination of GMS and Scala software has helped us create a digital signage network to communicate and wow students," said Steve Kosh, marketing and communications manager for Mohawk Students' Association.
Kosh said the news system makes messages standout, and that by making the messages fun they stick with busy students.
"With the amount of information bombarding students on a daily basis, it can be very difficult for colleges and universities to engage with students and deliver effective messages," said Andy McRae, General Manager, Scala Canada. "The Mohawk Students' Association has been very creative in how they use digital signage with multiple channels and locations - and incorporating social media. Their approach delivers communications in a way that really grabs people's attention."
Among the components of the project were 12 independent channels of content and 26 LCD displays ranging in size from 32 inches to 60 inches, the announcement said. High traffic areas of the building, such as entrances and reception areas, are run through a network using independent infrastructure to deliver video, audio and device control signals.
