Brookings, S.D.-based Daktronics Inc. has announced a project with Major League Baseball's Philadelphia Phillies to provide a light emitting diode (LED) video display that will have high-definition clarity and be much larger than the former video display at Citizens Bank Park.
The display, installed below the iconic "Phillies" sign, will measure 76 feet high and 97 feet wide, totaling 7,372 square feet of digital space. Daktronics will design, manufacture and install the LED video display, which will be among the largest in Major League Baseball and all of sports, according to company officials.
"We are truly excited to bring the HD experience to our fans," Phillies Director of Broadcasting and Video Services Mark Dinardo said in the announcement. "The new technology and dramatically larger screen size will bring our fans closer to the action than ever."
The LED display will show video with up to 1512 lines of resolution, using Daktronics HD-15 technology. The display will provide wide-angle viewing for better visibility for more fans, increased contrast and superb image clarity with the ability to display video imagery in 144 quadrillion shades of color.
Additionally, the Phillies will install a dedicated closed-captioning display that will measure 4 feet high by 74 feet in length. This display will be centered under the new main video display.
Also included in the upgrade project are Daktronics video image processing technologies and the Show Control system.
Daktronics has scoring and display equipment at 26 of 30 Major League Baseball facilities, and integrated super systems at 19 of 30 MLB ballparks, according to the announcement.
