Scala announced that it powered the visual communications network at the Youth Olympic Village (YOV) at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) held in Singapore in August 2010. In partnership with Click Grafix, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) was awarded the privilege to deploy and manage digital signage for the YOV, which housed more than 5,000 YOG officials and athletes from around the world.

Located amidst the lush greenery of the NTU campus, the YOV provided participants with a comfortable residence for 18 days. As place for the athletes to rest and prepare for competition, the YOV also buzzed with social activities such as specially designed cultural and educational programs. These programs offered youth from more than 205 National Olympic Committees a taste of exciting and diversified experience.

To ensure information was broadcast through the entire YOV, 96 Samsung screens ranging from 40 inches to 46 inches were positioned around the campus. Half of the screens were located in the Village Square, the central hub of activity, and the remaining screens were placed in the Residential Zone.

The seamless integration of Scala software, combined with customized applications, made it possible for the NTU team to meet the demand for varied content to be scheduled and broadcasted to different locations within the village.

Residents of the YOV were updated, informed, educated and entertained with creative rich media content that included RSS feeds, Twitter updates, weather, daily programs, movie screenings, animations, announcements, information, environmental messages and trailer advertisements of the Games.

"The YOG deployment was our most interesting and challenging project to date," said Ahmed Balfaqih, managing director of Click Grafix. "We are very privileged to have been given the opportunity to participate at every level of this implementation, from the training of the volunteers to the development of the custom applications."
